news flash! Racing fans worldwide continue to be stunned today, as professional race car driver and world champion, Ryder Stormer, was stripped of his medals. Stormer, who burst onto the scene only a few years ago, has captured fans' attention with his dominant presence both on and off the track. In a recent December 17th race, however, Stormer was exposed as a fraud when his vehicle turned out to be his mutant brother in a shifted form. After a quick, closed-door trial, both brothers have agreed to fines, attendance at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and are prohibited from competing in or attending future racing events.
The brothers have faced the ire of mutant supporters and detractors alike, as well as that of members of the sports world, who have long been embroiled in their own debates over the legitimacy of mutants in competition with humans. Sources close to Disney star Alexis York say that the superstar has cut things off with Rhett Stormer, her longtime beau, after news of the scandal broke. Representatives for the Stormers were not available for comment.

[Associate Press] Early this morning around 3 A.M. one of the factories affiliated with Shaw Industries was vandalized, ransacked, and set aflame. We're sure this has brought some confusion to Shaw's people as it has been stated for years that he keeps all of his businesses guarded. However, the guards were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries before their release. Authorities questioned the guards who all surprisingly have no memory of the events that happened last night. When NYPD and FDNY arrived on the scene all of the guards were unconscious and tied up outside of the burning building. Authorities believe that the culprit(s) might have had prior knowledge of the security system to have easily taken down the complex. It has been estimated that Shaw lost millions worth of technology including an unknown project in the making that was said to "revolutionize the world." Representatives of business tycoon Sebastian Shaw were unavailable for comment.

[associated press] CEO of Shaw Industries Sebastian Shaw sat down with us last week to share his views on the mutant epidemic that has been on many nations' agendas for some years now.
"They're vile creatures that should be dealt with immediately."
Perhaps probably the most hated man in the world for his loose tongue and his strong influence, it hasn't taken any effect on his net worth. He has been ranked as one of the wealthiest men in the world my Forbes for several years now, and has been estimated to be worth over $7 billion.
Shaw has been no stranger to the mutant front. Over the years he has been a part of many anti-mutant advertisements, and has garnered hundreds of anti-Shaw blogs throughout the Internet.
"I'm a strong believer and sponsor of the Mutant Registration Act. We keep records of citizens who buy guns, correct? So there shouldn't be a damn thing wrong with making sure that mutants who are more dangerous than a mere gun are recorded and tracked! Personally, I have a few better ideas on what to do with those creatures but I don't make my millions on that so I'll keep quiet."
When asked about his relationship with Emma Frost, CEO of Frost International and a former headmistress who was suspected of being a mutant and fired from her headmistress position a little over a year ago, he had quite a few choice words to say.
"My business ties have nothing to do with my personal opinions. I hate quite a few of my business partners, but that doesn't mean they can't make me richer. Let's make this very clear, though. Ms. Frost was merely suspected of being a mutant. If it does turn out to be true, then she can expect to have one less business partner to worry about."
Mr. Shaw has been ranked #14 earlier this year on Forbes Most Influential Celebrities in the World. | | Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 | | 11:53 pm |
breaking news! Burtram Worthington, CEO of the pharmaceutical division of Worthington Industries, was arrested early Tuesday morning, for being complicit in the terrorist activities that took place earlier this summer. The self-proclaimed Brotherhood of Evil Mutants used the Worthington trial cure as a control device, creating a way to control mutants and attempting to destroy several major cities across the country in late May. Since then, Worthington Inc. has been undergoing intense scrutiny by the FBI, as connections to the terrorist organization are sought out. Warren Worthington Jr, current President of the company, has been officially cleared by the Bureau of suspicion, as has his wife. Their son, Warren Worthington III, was one of the mutants made famous during the attacks. Burtram Worthington is being transported to a federal holding facility, where he will await his hearing.

[associated press] The athletic world received a shock today when it was finally confirmed that Jean-Paul Beaubier has been attending the training camp for Canada's Olympic hopefuls. This past week has involved days of drills and practices designed to push the world-class skiiers to their limits, and weed out all but the best of the best. There have been favorites discussed since the last Olympics, but among them was not Beaubier, Canada's former gold medalist.
Beaubier came to fame first as Northstar, through Alpha Flight, the Canadian government's elite and mutant-oriented paramilitary team. His unique mutation granted him the ability to move at speeds faster than the human eye can follow, along with flight. These mutations, it was argued, were utilized by Beaubier in the 2008 Winter Olympics, where he won two gold medals and two silver. In a rare decision, the Olympic committee chose to revoke Beaubier's medals, as it was too difficult to prove that his powers hadn't been used in the competition, setting a precedent that has since made it extremely difficult for mutants to compete at world-class levels with athletics.
When rumors first began earlier this week as to who was actually at the training locations, speculation ran rampant as to how and why Beaubier might be there again. Since his medals were taken, the once-celebrity has taken a job at Xavier's School for the Gifted, teaching and (as discovered recently) working with a mutant team there, reminiscent of his time with Alpha Flight. The school recently made headlines as multiple members were subjects of the trial cure produced by Worthington, Inc, and were later manipulated by terrorist cells into destroying sections of New York City. Beaubier has maintained his reputation of being notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to dealing with the press, and has yet to even confirm his participation, but with understandable concern rising, a member of the committee has stepped forward. "Jean-Paul is working with the coaches and trainers at our facilities, and is competing alongside the other athletes there to potentially gain a spot on the 2010 team. He was not a part of the drug trials in America. Department H is testing a device which would temporarily inhibit mutations, which has put him back on the same level as our other athletes."
Heather Hudson of Department H -- the branch which is in charge of Alpha Flight and other mutant-related issues -- confirms this. "It's a prototype of an inhibitor that's still in development. This device will, in the future, enable us to more swiftly and safely do our job to keep the country safe. It is not intended as a cure, or as a permanent means of denying any mutant what they have been born with. The side effects are still unknown, and JP is being watched carefully by our own team of doctors to ensure his well-being."
If the test succeed and he not only makes it onto the Olympic team, but wins in his events, there is a chance that his 2008 medals could be returned. More pressing though, is what another means of blocking mutant powers could mean for the mutant community as a whole.

((this'll be appearing on major news sites and stations!)) | | Sunday, January 18th, 2009 | | 6:20 pm |
[associated press] Worthington Industries, a giant in the corporate world, has most recently been known as the innovative force behind what most are referring to as a mutant cure. Now, it would seem, their product has a new face -- that of the company's son, Warren Worthington III. The son of billionaire Warren Worthington Jr was seen this weekend leaving one of the clinics where the trial drug was administered. A statement was released by the family requesting that the public respect their son's privacy during this time, and that he is not intended to serve as any sort of mouthpiece for the company, or for the family's stance on the mutant population. Controversy has already arisen though over his age -- only fifteen. A source close to the family has revealed that his mutation was that of a pair of large wings -- another point of contention, given that there was nothing inherently dangerous about his mutation...[continued on pg. 10]
((This will be appearing as a blurb on most news sites and TV stations, along with some paparazzi shots of Warren entering and leaving the clinic (slightly covered up, but not enough to fully disguise him) and links to blogs debating his age, mutation, parents, reason for taking it, etc., a lot of it getting pretty heated and ugly.)) | | Monday, November 10th, 2008 | | 8:26 pm |
[spreading across news sources like wildfire] With mutant registration and the general treatment of mutants and their place in society being a hot-button issue in the election, it's no surprise that it has come up again even after the votes have been tallied. For a different reason though, this time. Worthington Industries' latest press release has revealed their pharmaceutical division's probings into what some are calling a mutant "cure". Dr. Nathaniel Essex, the lead researcher on the project, is hopeful. "We're closer than we've ever been to developing a formula that could potentially permanently subdue the effects of the mutant gene." This has already caused a flurry of controversy within the medical community, and has rippled out into the general public. Detractors of the experiment say that it's an opening to possible measures being taken against mutants, that it could be used against a mutant unwillingly and only serve to increase hostilities. Supporters, on the other hand, say that this is a breakthrough of unimaginable significance for how it could help the lives of what mutants find their abilities to be curses. Representatives of Worthington Industries confirm that "Our research is intended to help those whose lives have been made unmanageable by forces outside of their control." That help may be arriving sooner than thought. Specific clinics in at least four major cities will be accepting human trials as the next phase of the experiment. The locations are undisclosed, and to become a participant in the trials requires being registered, for identity verification and a screening process before the nearest clinic's address is given out. The number to call has been listed on Worthington Industries' pharmaceutical developments website. Clinical trials are said to begin November 17th, and consist of three series of injections over the course of five months. Side effects are unknown, and those participating have no assurances that the project will work, or come without an unexpected price. "We've done all that we can to make sure that the serum is both safe and humane, and we hope that there will be no undue side effects. There are always unexpected turns in science, though," one of the researchers tells us. The project denies any affiliation with the government and maintains that it is not sponsored by any government or military institutes.

Sunday August 24, 2008 (ATLANTA -- AP)
An explosion which rocked the halls of Ryan Research, Inc's Atlanta facility left three dead and five injured early Sunday morning. Amongst the dead is top RRI researcher and scientist Carl Maddicks. Maddicks, who was well-known for his often controversial work with genetics and mutation as well as his zealous work habits, was reportedly working beyond provisioned company hours with his team on a new 'top-secret' project when a piece of the lab equipment failed critically, causing a fatal explosion which cost three scientists their lives and resulted in structural damages estimated in the hundreds of thousands.
(The article goes on to give brief writeups of the other two deceased, as well as basic details on the injured scientists and a fairly generic and clinical statement from a company representative trying to seem empathetic about the accident.) |
